FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's lacrosse team (3-4, 0-1 Commonwealth Conference) dropped its Commonwealth Conference debut to the Albright College Lions (7-1, 1-0 Commonwealth) by a count of 24-7 Thursday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.
Sophomore Brigid Ayer posted three scores, all in the first half, to bring her total on the season to 12. Bailey Czech also scored twice and Caitlin Lawrence and Ashley Kitzmiller added single tallies. Lauren Couch rejected 18 shots in defeat, two away from her season-high. Lawrence also won four draws and Megan Feldtmose and Kimi Brunot each forced an Albright turnover.
The first half was a see-saw affair which saw neither team lead by more than two goals. Ayer converted a free-position shot with a little less than three minutes to play before intermission to make it 7-6 Albright, but the Lions had the final say when Rebecca Roman ripped one of her five goals on the afternoon in the final minute and Albright led 8-6 at halftime.
Albright went on to outscore the Blazers 15-1 in the second half to clinch the win. Roman and Erin Farrell each scored five goals while Amanda Smith, Nicole Rohrbach and Meghan Wilson had four apiece.
Hood continues Commonwealth play Wednesday at Elizabethtown College at 4 p.m.
