Kitzmiller, Ayer Record Hat Tricks in 17-10 Loss at Notre Dame (Md.)
BALTIMORE, Md.--Ashley Kitzmiller and Brigid Ayer scored three goals apiece for the Hood College women's lacrosse team (3-9) in a 17-10 nonconference defeat at the hands of the Notre Dame (Md.) University Gators (6-5) Wednesday afternoon.
After Notre Dame struck first in the opening minute, Hood scored four of the game's next five goals to assume a 4-2 lead 7:20 into it. However the Gators notched eight unanswered scores over the next 14 minutes to take a 10-4 advantage. Megan Feldtmose converted a free position attempt for her ninth score of the year to cease the Gator run and the Blazers trailed 11-6 at halftime.
Hood and Notre Dame traded goals for most of the second half but the Blazers were unable to close the gap to fewer than five. The Gators got a pair of late goals from Molly Murray for the final margin.
KayLynn McCarthy and Amy Eyler both scored their second goals of the season while Danielle Roberts registered her first of the year for the Blazers. Hood won 16 of the game's 29 draws, including five by Ayer and four by Feldtmose.
Lauren Couch amassed 20 saves between the pipes for the third time this spring.
Hood returns home Saturday for a Commonwealth Conference matchup with Lycoming College at 1 p.m. The Blazers will recognize seniors Kimi Brunot, Amalia Franzese, Caitlin Lawrence and Miriah Stone prior to the game.
