Couch Saves 23 Shots in 17-1 Setback at Widener
CHESTER, Pa.--The Hood College women's lacrosse team (3-12, 0-8 Commonwealth) lost to Commonwealth Conference rival Widener University (8-8, 3-5 Commonwealth) by a score of 17-1 Saturday in the 2013 season finale.
Keeper Lauren Couch turned aside a career-high 23 shots on the day, 11 in the first half and 12 in the second, as the Pride peppered the Blazer cage with 52 shots on the afternoon.
Brigid Ayer ripped her 20th goal of the season with 12 minutes remaining in the opening half for Hood's line score of the game. Megan Dunn stopped Hood's two other attempts on cage, one by Ayer and the other by KayLynn McCarthy.
Miriah Stone and Amy Eyler controlled two draws while Kimi Brunot also collected one. Carissa Ferguson had a solid defensive effort by forcing three Pride turnovers; she and Couch also registered two ground balls apiece. Amalia Franzese and Eyler caused Widener turnovers as well.
Widener's Julia Costello had a hand in six goals for the victors on three goals and three assists while Laura Kalbach, Meghan Garvey and Caitlyn Mullner had multi-goal games as well.
