Briana White and Tyler Snoots Heralded as Hood Athletes of the Week

FREDERICK, Md.--First-year forward Briana White of the women's basketball team and senior center Tyler Snoots of the men's basketball team have been selected as the Hood College Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 9.

White guided the Blazers to a crucial 62-45 Capital Athletic Conference win at Stevenson University Wednesday. The victory was Hood's first league triumph of the season and ended a six-game skid dating back to November 28. White connected on 5-of-10 shots from the field, including a pair from long-range, and finished with a game-high 16 points. She also hauled in five boards, picked off four steals and dished two assists in addition to hitting all four of her foul shots. White was also Hood's leading scorer in Saturday's league tilt with Marymount University at the Odom Fitness Center. She enjoyed a 4-for-8 effort from the floor and went 3-for-4 from the stripe to tally 12 points on the afternoon.

A native of Williamstown, N.J., White has emerged as Hood's leading scorer in her first season in the blue-and-grey, averaging 12.6 points per outing. She is also the squad's top rebounder, picking up 5.5 caroms a night. A starter in all 12 games, she is shooting a team-best .487 from the field and leads the Blazers in blocks with 11.

Snoots was a force at both ends of the hardwood for the Blazers in a pair of key CAC wins last week. The Gov. Thomas Johnson High School product had one of his finest collegiate games Wednesday at Stevenson when he pumped in 22 points and snared a career-high 22 rebounds, helping the Blazers run away from the Mustangs, 76-53. His 22 boards were the second-highest single-game total in CAC history and three away from tying Hood's single-game school record. Snoots then contributed 13 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 30 minutes of action against Marymount Saturday. Snoots and the Blazers captured their third straight win and improved to 5-1 at the Odom Fitness Center with a 68-57 triumph over the Saints. Hood also moved into fourth place in the CAC.

Snoots is averaging a team-best 14.2 points and 7.7 boards per game and ranks eighth in the CAC in scoring and tied for second in rebounding. He has started 12 of Hood's 13 games and connects on 49.2 percent of his shots from the field.

The Blazer women (5-7, 1-5 CAC) and men (8-5, 4-2 CAC) continue league play Wednesday at York College (Pa.) at 6 and 8 p.m.
