Women's basketball cold in Florida

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Hood College women's basketball team fell to Lynchburg on the first day of the Blazers' trip to the Daytona Beach Shootout 70-26.

How it Happened

  • The Blazers came out cold and hit just 2-of-13 field goals in the first quarter, allowing the Hornets to build a 20-5 lead.
  • Lynchburg continued to pull away in the second quarter, building a 37-12 lead at halftime. 

Notes

  • Erin Green and Meredith Vetter scored 13 points apiece to lead the Hornets. 
  • Maggie Quarles added 10 points and Abby Oguich grabbed 12 rebounds. 
  • Lynchburg went 7-of-12 from 3-point range (58 percent) and 19-of-20 at the free throw line (95 percent). 
  • While Hood was undone by poor shooting throughout the contest, the Blazers won the turnover battled. Hood had 19 turnovers, while Lynchburg committed 25.
